For over 30 years, Steve Simpson has helped organisations worldwide transform workplace cultures to drive performance, productivity, and safety. Leaders bring him in when they struggle with cultural disconnects, unspoken workplace norms, or the challenge of building a genuine safety culture – especially in high-risk industries. He also tackles the emerging complexities of psychosocial safety, showing leaders how to foster environments where people thrive.

Steve is the creator of UGRs® (Unwritten Ground Rules)—a groundbreaking concept that reveals the hidden forces shaping workplace behaviour. An international speaker, author, and consultant, he has worked with global brands like McLaren Automotive, SAP (globally), Toyota Australia, Kmart, and Next UK, helping them decode and shift their workplace cultures for lasting impact.

A respected thought leader, Steve is the author of UGRs: Cracking the Corporate Culture Code and co-author of A Culture Turned. He has a master’s degree from the University of Alberta and was invited to co-present a national lecture tour with Harvard’s Rosabeth Moss Kanter.

Recognized for his contribution to the field, Steve has received two Hall of Fame awards from Professional Speakers Australia. With an engaging and practical approach, filled with lots of laughs, he equips leaders with the tools to create cultures that don’t just exist—but excel.

What people say about Steve

I have heard Steve Simpson speak at different conferences over the last year or so and have found him to be very informative but at the same time entertaining. Having attended many conferences in the financial services industry over 40 years I would rate Steve’s message and his ability to get it across up with the best.

– Australian Financial Services Licensee

In the 1980s it was Situational Leadership and Ken Blanchard, and Body Language and Alan Pease. In the 2000s, it was Jim Collins and Good to Great. Now is the time for Steve Simpson and UGRs.

– Former CEO Kmart and Target, Australia

I’ve rarely taken so much away with me as I did from my first sighting of Steve Simpson. Fresh ideas, supported with robust research and delivered in a very natural, involving and energetic style. A real Customer Service Pro!

– Chairman, SOCAP in Europe

How refreshing to have a conference presentation that was not only engaging and entertaining but which provided immediate, tangible actions that can be applied in any organisation including at Board level to address issues of culture and hidden behaviours.

– Director on a number of NFP Board

A Culture Turned

A Culture Turned

To the outside world, Australia-based Very Important Corporation is a thriving and successful company. What the world doesn’t know is that Bruce Bottomline, the COO, is on the brink of quitting because he knows in his heart that the company’s culture is driving it headlong toward its own demise. With the concept of UGRs (unwritten ground rules), the corporation gets back on track.
