Simon Rosenbaum is Scientia Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine and Health, Discipline of Psychiatry and Mental Health, UNSW Sydney. Simon’s research focuses on physical activity and mental illness with a focus on populations exposed to trauma.
Simon is internationally recognised for his work which includes over >250 peer-reviewed publications and a co-edited a textbook on exercise and mental illness. He was the President of the Australasian Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (2021-2023) and inaugural co-chair of the Olympic Refuge Foundation’s Think Tank on sport and humanitarian settings. Simon is a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher for Mental Health (listed in the top 1% of scientists globally) for the past five consecutive years and was recognised by The Australian newspaper as being among the top 40 early career scientists Australia wide (2020-2021).
Simon has delivered workshops in over 25 countries, has consulted to the United Nations in Nigeria, and was the mental health officer in the Rohingya refugee camps in Bangladesh (2019-2020). He has held visiting academic appointments in Colombia (Esceula Colombiana de Rehabilitacion) and Italy (University of Padua) and is currently supported by a prestigious National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Emerging Leadership Fellowship.
Simon is also the founder of ‘Addi Moves’, a trauma-informed and free exercise facility for people from a refugee background at the Addison Road Community Organisation in Marrickville, Sydney.
